Rossosassu is our Cannonau di Sardegna doc, the prince of Sardinian red wines. Cannonau comes from the ancient grape variety of the same name which, according to recent archaeological findings made in the Sardinian nuraghes, could be one of the first varieties of vine employed in the Mediterranean for the production of wine.
The vineyard planted to Cannonau is located in the countryside between the town of Luras and the L’Iscia Lake, at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level, in the granitic heart of Gallura, which along millennia of erosion, has turned into sandy and clayey soils, perfect for the cultivation of the vine.
We harvest according to tradition, handpicking the grapes in the early morning of the first decade of October. After crushing and destemming, the grapes are left to macerate in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 20°C for twenty-three days. After at least four months of ageing in bottle, we can finally offer you our Rossosassu, a strong wine with 14% alcohol content, a lightly pale ruby red, typical of pure Cannonau, only slightly tannic and intense with its unique and persistent aromas of blackberry, raspberry and black cherry.
